  • Overview

    Instructs classes in co-requisite mathematics/college level mathematics and assists in the coordination of the College’s co-requisite model. Instructs in a variety of settings and formats, including dual credit, online, hybrids, ITV, and occasionally weekends/evenings.  Develops appropriate curriculum as updated by the State. This is a grant funded position.

    Responsibilities

    • 55%   Teaches between 10 & 15 SCHS of mathematics and/or Co-Requisite mathematics courses per long semester (When not teaching 15 SCHs, instructor will be assisting in the reporting/development aspects of the GC Co-Requisite program); meets classes as assigned and provides assistance to students outside of class; assists Chair in coordination of mathematics co-requisite model.
    • 25%   Works as team member in the Mathematics and Engineering Department; complies with the ‘faculty responsibilities’ as outlined in the Faculty Handbook and the College’s Policy and Procedure Manual; Develops and updates curriculum and measure student learning outcomes as needed to meet THECB Exemplary Objectives and SACSCOC requirements. 
    • 15%   Contributes to the campus assessment process by measuring and reporting student learning outcomes as directed to meet THECB Core Objectives and SACSCOC requirements.  Participates in College committees.  Assists in registration, advisement and recruiting of students. 
    • 5%   Performs other duties as assigned by the Dean and Department Chair

    Qualifications

    • Master's degree or higher with 18 hours of graduate courses in mathematics from an accredited college or university.
    • Previous successful experience teaching mathematics, developmental mathematics, and/or within a co-requisite model in a high-school, university, and/or community college.
    • Demonstrated ability to engage students in the learning process and proven commitment to student success.
    • Collegial attitude with college community as well as outside entities.
    • Proven commitment to student success.
    • Cooperative attitude, excellent written and verbal communication skills and team skills, and student-centered focus. .
    • Strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple assignments.
    • Experience tracking student learning outcomes, analyzing resultant data, and implementing improvement plans.
    • Excellent computer and multi-media skills.
    • Willingness to stay current in teaching methodologies and introduce pedagogical innovations as needed for effective instruction. 
    • Demonstrated dedication to the community college philosophy and ability to adapt to and enthusiastically support challenges to public higher education in the future.
