  • Overview

    Advises clients in business principles and specific areas of business startup and management including business planning, accounting, market research, sources of capital, human resources issues and other areas to increase business visibility. SBDC is a grant program subject to annual renewal.

    Responsibilities

    • 25%   Provides one-on-one counseling to assist clients with business management, fiscal management, and planning skills.  Assists in solving contemporary marketing problems and issues.
    • 20%   Participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of programs designed to advise clients in business startup and management.
    • 10%   Works with established businesses in addressing their changing business management needs.
    • 10%   Instructs and coaches beginning enterprises whose knowledge of the business area may be in the early stages of development.
    • 10%   Assists companies to improve sales management processes or advise on financial accounting and reporting procedures.
    • 10%   Develops a client database, establishes a reporting system, and generates narrative and statistical reports on the activities and progress of clients.
    • 5%     Assists the director with strategic plans designed to promote the growth of the program.
    • 5%     Facilitates seminars and assists in marketing the program through contacts with outside groups.
    • 5%     Performs other duties as assigned or required by the grant.

     

    Performance Measurements:

    1. Demonstrates the Viking Values of balance, clarity, gratitude, service, teamwork, and trust.
    2. Contributes to the achievement of center milestones as assigned by NTSBDC, SBA, and the center director.
    3. Maintains a professional appearance and demonstrates professional behavior at all times.
    4. Completes a minimum of 36 hours of professional development annually.
    5. Completes reports and activity documentation in a timely manner.
    6. Adheres to applicable laws, regulations, and policies related to higher education and grant management.

    Qualifications

    • Five years to ten years of similar or related experience.
    • A Bachelor's degree is required.
    • A Master's degree is preferred.
    • Courtesy, tact, and diplomacy are essential elements of the job.
    • Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the college for purposes of giving or obtaining information, building relationships, or soliciting cooperation.
    • Must have the ability to work as a team member and independently and relate well to clients of varied backgrounds and skill levels.
    • Ability to maintain strict client confidentiality.
    • Ability to work with various levels of community and government entities.
    • Certified as a Quickbooks Pro Advisor or willing to obtain that certification within 6 months of employment.

     

    This position requires three professional references. This position is considered a security sensitive position and will require a criminal background check.
