  • Overview

    Serves as first point of contact for the financial aid process from inquiries to disbursement of funds.

    Responsibilities

    • 45% Serves as first point of contact for financial aid inquiries. Assists students, parents, and college staff with questions, loan information, and application procedures either in person, in writing, by telephone or other electronic means.
    • 25% Processes documents needed to complete students' financial aid files. Prepares correspondence, enters data, develops financial requests for funds disbursement and other documents relating to financial aid.
    • 10% Assists students and parents to complete the FAFSA.
    • 5% Attends community presentations relating to financial aid for prospective, new and currently enrolled students and other community events. Assists in the preparation of presentations and delivery of materials to events.
    • 5% Attends financial aid training, workshops, seminars, and conferences to maintain current knowledge of financial aid requirements and regulations.
    • 5% Prepares reports and updates office procedures as requested.
    • 5% Performs other job related duties as assigned.

    5. Works as a contributing member of the financial aid team.  Cross-trains as necessary to achieve department goals.
    6. Arrives to work on time and maintains satisfactory attendance record.
    7. Maintains confidentiality of student records.
    8. Complies with all laws and regulations pertaining to federal and state financial aid; adheres to institutional policies and procedures for processing financial aid.

    Qualifications

    • A high school education or GED.
    • Six months to two years of similar or related experience.
    • One to two years of experience in financial aid or related field is preferred.  
    • Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
    • Work normally involves contacts with persons beyond immediate associates generally regarding routine matters for purposes of giving or obtaining information which may require some discussion. Outside contacts take the form of service to the public (students, visitors or vendors) requiring ordinary courtesy in providing assistance and information.
    • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills and basic written communication skills are required.

     

    This position requires three professional references. This position is considered a security sensitive position and will require a criminal background check.
