Overview

Works with Adult Education and Literacy (AEL) students to transition them to post-secondary education or into the workforce; provides relevant follow up information of students to support grant objectives. 

  • Location:  Various - classes will be conducted at multiple locations and some remotely.
  • Schedule: Various-- based on class schedules.
  • Pay Rate:  The salary for this position is $22.00/hour.

Responsibilities

  • 25%  Tracks exited AEL student outcomes for enrollment in post-secondary education and job placement.
  • 20%  Conducts classroom presentations to focus on job search, interview, and retention skills.
  • 20%  Serves as a link between local industry and students for identification of hiring opportunities including information forums, employment fairs and workintexas.com.
  • 10%  Provides advising for course enrollment/placement/pathways and on-going case management for potential and current non-credit students.
  • 10%  Provides student assessment services to identify relevant interests and required remediation.
  • 10%  Creates and maintains career information related to demand and emerging labor needs.
  • 5%    Performs other job related duties.

  1. Demonstrates the Viking Values of balance, clarity, gratitude, service, teamwork, and trust.
  2. Complies with all federal and state laws and regulations relating to higher education and grant administration.
  3. Works closely with program director, data coordinator and other staff to serve participants and comply with program requirements.
  4. Stays current in the field of Adult Education and actively continues professional growth, including obtaining necessary credentials to perform required duties.
  5. Adapts as needed to ever-changing state and federal requirements.
  6. Remains sensitive to socio-economic and cultural factors that influence student recruitment, retention, and successful progress and completion of the program.
  7. Promotes the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion in the classroom.

Qualifications

  • Six months to two years related previous work experience.
  • A Bachelor's degree. Some education coursework preferred.
  • Courtesy, tact, and diplomacy are essential elements of the job.
  • Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the college for purposes of giving or obtaining information, building relationships, or soliciting cooperation.
  • Proficient in the use of computers (internet, emailing, etc.) and office equipment (copier, scanner, printer, etc.).
  • Work includes sitting, walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items, and travel to various classroom sites as needed.
